I'm so excited to announce the opening of my new business, Shiatsu Massage with Marja. Based in beautiful St Agnes on the north coast of Cornwall, my inspiration comes from the ocean, nature and the warm, friendly people who live in and visit "Aggy".
Based in the health and beauty community rooms of the MMI, I have a central location within a two-minute walk of free parking. There's the Cuckoo Cafe onsite too and disabled access.
My dream: to travel the world.
Nonetheless I was too young at 17 and I was advised to complete a BTEC National Diploma in Social Care.
But then I travelled the world...YAY.
After this I gained first aid, resuscitation and lifeguard awards, which I have regularly updated ever since. On top of this, in the late 90s I decided to become both a swimming teacher and a surfing instructor (both level 2). From that time, I ran a surf school during the holidays and taught swimming at Truro Leisure Centre - in fact I still teach there now.
As if this wasn't enough to keep my brain active, I then travelled abroad a little. Living in the Alps, then in Germany, I managed to severely damage my body through over work and play.
I became a Reiki practitioner and also learnt several techniques on releasing pain from the body. The most life changing was the combination of Reiki and massage. From then till now my friends still come to me for this, as I am a well practised self-healer. Word of mouth is everything.
On my healing journey I met Steve Davies my guru who enabled me to achieve my Masters in Reiki and taught me Shiatsu. We still have weekly swaps of Shiatsu massage so I guess people could call it an apprenticeship. When you have people like this in your life that believe in you, you can achieve anything.
After years of cutting my family's hair, I decided to make it a profession and studied for 2 years at level 2. We were all advised by our teacher not to go "mobile" straight away, I didn't listen. The friends who used to come for massages then came to me for their "best ever hair cuts" (their words) too. Their reason being was because I listened, then did exactly what they wanted. So everyone is happy.
Shiatsu is my new found love in life, and it warms and excites me to see results in not only this but in each "hat" I wear. The delight of seeing people's expressions change when they've achieved the unexpected or catch their very first wave is so rewarding. I love seeing people happy, especially if I can help them.
